Teach. Write. Pedal. Repeat.

Hi, I’m Alicia, aka stuckinmypedals.  I’m a teacher and I relish my time with my students, but I’m starting to understand what my mom used to tell me about time passing in the blink of an eye.  I’m a teacher consultant for the Northern California Writing Project, which simply means I have ample opportunities to overcome my outrageous fear of public speaking by talking to other teachers about what I love most: teaching kids to love writing.

I am a writer and throughout my childhood and adolescence I won several awards for some truly magnificent poetry.  I’ve since stopped torturing people with bad poetry and instead spend my time perfecting crash landings as an endurance cyclist.  I proudly raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation as a member of Team Fatty.

I married my high school sweetheart and he somehow manages to love me despite my stubborn nature, my affinity for candy, and my fear of birds.  I lead a wonderful and funny life and I love writing about it.  So, welcome.  Kick off your shoes and stay awhile.

I found my way to your blog from Team Fatty and a comment you left there. I couldn’t stop reading …………I felt like I was back in the classroom again and I remembered how much I love young children and how they embrace life. Thanks for being a great teacher!!!!

Welcome, Rhonda! Any friend of Fatty is a friend of mine. :) My students are my teachers on embracing life, extending compassion, and giving generously. Thanks for leaving a comment to let me know you’re here. I hope you come back often.

Affinity for candy and fear of birds? It’s like we were separated at birth. Birds are always attacking me.

Oh my gosh! I think you’re somewhat (kinda) in my neck of the woods. Are you in Chico? I’m in Sonoma. I found your blog through Hippie earlier in the week, read through but didn’t comment. Then she reminded her readers today to check you out, and I thought, “Oh! I like her blog. I need to go read it again.” And just now realized we’re (sorta) nearby. And I think I may know one of the personnel who works at the NCWP…how madly odd!

Here’s the bird attacks post: http://thoughtsappear.wordpress.com/2010/05/31/the-birds-are-chirping-and-attacking/

Might want to grab some candy to snack on while you read.

    Greetings!

I see your posts on “The Lipstick Chronicles”. I am a semi-retired bicyclist and the father of two small children. Your comments today on TLC about school funding reminded me about a bumper sticker. You have probably seen it, but just in case:

Hey!!! I finally got around to checking out your blog after almost four years. I’m glad that you don’t hold it against me. Since I don’t get to see you much any more I thought I would check it out so I could keep up-to-date with your life. Funny how we are in the same building (kind of) every day and I have to consult my computer to keep up with your life. See you Monday (maybe). :)

    Alicia,

We saw the Anderson Post article while traveling. We’re excited for you. We sponsor Simon and Sina, two young people at Restore Int’l and we had the chance to spend a couple of days there in Gulu with John Niemier as our host last summer. (Please tell our kids hi from us) Hope to compare notes sometime when you’re back up in Redding where we also live.

    Mike and Merlynn Fitzpatrick
